Woodstock Funk Collective and Rock Academy Advanced Ensemble
On Saturday, February 17th, at 8 pm, the Colony comes alive with classic 70s dance, from Chic to the Commodores, Sly to P-Funk, Sister Sledge to Donna Summer. All to benefit Woodstock Day School social studies teacher Jeff Beals’ (D) campaign for the 19th District Congressional seat held by John Faso (R).

Fellow WDS teacher, renowned musician, and writer Robert Burke Warren leads WDS Funk Collective, featuring famed indie singer-songwriter A.C. Newman (New Pornographers), drummer Manuel Quintana (Eric Redd, Rachel Yamagata), guitarist Peter Dougan (Gene Ween, Carl Mateo), children’s musician extraordinaire Tim Sutton (Ratboy, Jr.), and keyboardist and educator Victor Lissabet. Other guest vocalists include legendary folksinger and feminist Alix Dobkin, drummer/vocalist Jason Bowman (Gene Ween, Pearl Aday), and Warren himself.

The Rock Academy Advanced Ensemble, ranging in age from 13 to 18, opens the show at 8 pm with a set of 70s Dance Hits.

Hudson Valley native Jeff Beals served with distinction as a diplomat in Iraq, helping bring warring factions together to create the country’s constitution, and was decorated by both the U.S. Army and the State Department. Now, he fights for democracy here at home, striving to bring opposing sides together to lead a united coalition of new voices in Congress, and face down the corporate interests and lobbyists rigging our economy against working people. “Together,” he says, “we’ll pass a progressive economic agenda that creates jobs, raises wages, protects the environment and provides healthcare for all.”
