On the 80th anniversary of the broadcast that caused a national panic, Theatre On the Road brings a live stage production of the 1938 radio broadcast of WAR OF THE WORLDS to The Colony in Woodstock.

Theatre on the Road will present a live production of the 1938 “War of the Worlds” first broadcast by Orson Welles and his Mercury Theatre on the Air. When Welles adapted H. G. Wells’ sci-fi novel as a fictional radio broadcast, listeners mistook it as real news, inciting a panic. This stage production includes the full, original broadcast, adapted by actor John Landry, plus vintage commercials and live sound effects.

Directing for Theatre on the Road, Frank Marquette has an ensemble cast that features Lawrence Miller, Sue Regan, Lydia Pidlusky and John Adair as Orson Welles. Kenny Drao serves as tech director.

This production was staged on Bannerman Island in 2017 to a sold out audience. Neil Caplan, president of the Bannerman Trust, was quoted as saying, “this was a first class production with professional actors and it held the audience spellbound for a full hour. Live radio theater isn’t produced enough and Theatre on the Road did it right!”

Performance is on Halloween Night, October 31st at 7:30 pm Tickets are $15 for general and $12 for seniors and students. Tickets are available by visiting www.colonywoodstock.com or in person at the Colony box office Thursday-Mon 7pm-midnight.

Seating is limited to 180. The Colony is located 22 Rock City Rd, Woodstock, NY 12498.
